Online NewsRare Products No Problem For ASP Kingswingford-based Aluminium Special Products (ASP) is celebrating achieving a major aerospace standard. The company, which has over 20 years' experience of providing it's customers with specific and rare products, has been accredited with the Aerospace Standard BS EN 9100:2003. David Robinson, managing director of Aluminium Special Products, said: "This will allow us to offer an even better level of service to clients in the aerospace sector." ASP was founded in the mid-1980s to offer a technically competent, independent supply option for non-standard aluminium materials. Over the last 10 years, this capability has extended beyond aluminium and has been further developed to processing to a stage beyond raw materials. The company has played an active role in the creation of new products. Robinson said: "One defence client specified a special alloy containing 40 per cent silicon to give a low thermal expansion rate. Because of the pressure to improve performance, they have demanded a low density aluminium alloy that has thermal expansion characteristics to match those of mating parts in steel. "In order to do this, we will be supplying an extruded material in an alloy containing an estimated 53 per cent silicon." It's not all high-tech work, he added. When one customer found difficulty in sourcing high alloy steel tube, ASP found an alternative production route to keep the traditional specification alive, and completed the exercise with macining and heat treatment to the finished part. It even plays a role in keeping the "beloved Spitfire" in the air. ASP will invest in tooling, custom packaging and where necessary, special purpose equipment to meet the complete needs of it's customers' supply chain.
